Al terminar mis estudios en la Universidad, busqué infructuosamente durante tres años, becas para hacer un posgrado en el exterior. Entonces en 1979 armé el plan de realizar varias exposiciones para financiar mi viaje, así que hice exposiciones individuales en Barranquilla, Sincelejo, y Valledupar, y participé en un concurso de pintura en Santa Marta donde obtuve el segundo premio. Fui a Cartagena a ver a mi madre, quien vivía allí desde 1977 y aproveché para buscar oportunidades de exposición, pero en ninguna de las 2 galerías que había fue posible. Mientras buscaba oportunidades para exponer me extraviaba por las callejuelas del centro de la ciudad y siempre tenía que pedir orientación, algunas veces me orientaban caras sonrientes de bellas morenas y decidí plasmar no con una cámara sino con el carboncillo los bellos rostros de las chicas que aceptaran posar para mi. Aquí están quienes que hace 37 años me permitieron hacer este homenaje a la belleza cartagenera. Desafortunadamente no recuerdo el nombre de todas ellas.

After finishing my Fine Arts studies at the National University, I fruitless searched during 3 years a scholarship to do postgraduate studies abroad. Then in 1979 I developped the plan of doing several exhibitions in order to rise the money for my trip. I made solo exhibitions in Barranquilla, Sincelejo and Valledupar and participated at one juried Art competition in Santa Martha where I got the second prize. I went to Cartagena where my mother lived since 1977 and looked for exhibition opportunities there, but I did not find any. During my search I often got lost in the intricate downtown streets, and oftentimes I was guided by beautiful color girls with smiling faces, so I decided to catch not with a camera but with charcoal on paper the beautiful faces of the girls that may accept to sit for me. Here you can see the portraits of those ones that 37 years ago allowed me to do this hommage to Cartagena´s beautiful girls. Unfortunately I do not remember the names of them all.
